Agricultural Land Project at Phaya Taung children’s monastery
In these increasingly difficult times in Myanmar donations at the children’s monastery at Phaya Taung have dried up due to poverty and lack of foreign remittances causing the lack of very basic needs for the children. Whilst the Ko Yin Mineral water factory continues to produce clean drinking water there is a severe shortage of food for the children.
The Inle Trust has successfully donated sufficient funds to enable the monastery to buy 9 acres of agricultural land so that they are able to produce their own crops and herbs on a sustainable and long-term basis.
In the words of Phongyi the Monk:
“Thank you for your generous donation to the Monastery.
Donors like you are vital to the continued success of our mission to support and help the orphaned children and youngsters from disadvantaged backgrounds who need our help the most, and we are grateful for your support.
Most of our food provided to the children was from donations from the villagers and the families of the students, local and foreign donors. During the COVID 19 pandemic and crisis in Myanmar and because of poverty and lack of visitors we suffer from food shortages. We believe that planting our own crops will make us self-sustaining. Also, our students can take their own initiative to get involved in the cultivation process to understand the value of food.
Donation of the land will last for a lifetime. We will make good use of the land you are donating.”
I am pleased to say that even in these difficult circumstances we have been able to complete the 12th Project in the 12th Year of our work at the Phaya Taung monastery at The Inle Lake.
I would like to thank the donors and the Phongyi’s monastery team in Myanmar who made this project a reality…….against all odds!
